| Deaconess Judy Davis |
|
Deaconess Judy Davis Community Outreach Coordinator
When the Wesley Nurse Program started at Laurel Heights, Judy Davis was assigned to the post. That relationship lasted almost 10 years. Over the ensuing years, Judy’s desire to be more involved in the ministry of the church grew. In June 2007 Judy retired from Wesley Nurse Health Ministries and on August 1, 2007 picked up the reigns as the pioneering Community Outreach Coordinator for Laurel Heights.
Before leaving her post as Wesley Nurse, a seed was planted in Judy during a routine hospital visit to a member of the church. A young man who was also visiting the member thought that she was a deaconess of the church and each time he saw her after that, he referred to Judy as “The Deaconess.” That set the wheels in motion, motivating Judy to research the deaconess ministry in The United Methodist Church and leading her to complete five seminary level core courses as a Deaconess Candidate and receiving her commissioning in March 2008. Judy is thankful for the privilege of serving God by helping members of Laurel Heights. She appreciates the support of the membership in providing stepping stones along her faith journey that have opened a safe and clear path to her own spiritual growth.
Judy grew up in rural central Texas, the daughter of a cotton farmer and granddaughter of a Methodist circuit preacher. She and husband Dennis have two children and three grandchildren.
Judy can be reached at (210) 733-7156 ext. 18 or click here to send her an email.
